There are
many reading programs available for schools and teachers to use for
the benefit of their students. When a school is looking into a good
reading program for its students, the educators need to research each
program to find the one that will best suit the needs of their school. A reading
program that include theories from a few different sources, will most
likely be a good program. Programs that have a combination of methods
will display different angles of reading instruction and add
different styles and perspectives to the teaching. Reading programs
should include explicit instruction about specific reading skills.
These lessons should be incorporated into the reading, so that the
students will know how to apply the appropriate skill to the context.
Teacher read alouds and independent student reading should be
included in a reading program. Meaningful assessment are an integral
part of a reading program. Good reading programs are geared for both
struggling and non struggling readers. When children are at the
beginning stages of reading, it is important to give them a lot of
support, encouragement and lots of time to practice the new skills.
All children will learn differently and many programs will address
these different needs, Teachers should follow whichever reading
program they are using and be aware of the needs of each student to
give him/her the specific instruction is needed at any given time.
Well said, "Reading programs should include explicit instruction about specific reading skills." Explain further how these skills can be developed or enhanced through instruction (hence the structure of reading intervention).
